  • Appointment options
In-person sessions are located in Providence at 35 South Angell Street, right in Wayland Square. Virtual sessions for MA, NJ, and RI residents. Clients also can choose between "standard" 50 minute sessions or extended sessions which are 75 minutes or 90 minutes.
  • What if you can only draw stick figures?
Totally ok. Art therapy isn't focused on skill of art making, but rather on expression of thoughts, feelings, ideas. Externalizing in these ways helps our minds think and see things differently.
  • What ages are best for art therapy?
Great news - art therapy is for all ages! Art doesn't discriminate based on age (or any other cultural factors for that matter). Art is really versatile and can be adjusted, tweaked and modified to meet most people regardless of their age or abilities.
  • Do I have to make art?
Nope. I work with many clients as a integrative therapist. We may experiment with art making, but it is not a central modality. Other clients are focused on art making as a therapeutic modality and make art more frequently. It largely depends on you and what we are working on.
  • Do you provide internships?
I do not provide internships at this time. Check out local nonprofits and express your interest in incorporating the arts. Expressive art therapists are often implementing new programs and leading the way in offering this modality. I will offer art therapy consultation and support at the standard rate for individuals or groups.
  • What does integrative therapy mean?
Integrative therapy is two fold; 1. I facilitate a process where your brain can integrate and for natural emergence to occur. Utilizing an emotional coherence framework (neuroscience principals about a specific type of neuro-plasticity) guides our work together. Think working with your brain instead of trying to override or suppress. 2. My style integrates multiple modalities, in a targeted manner, as I facilitate the therapeutic process.
  • How do I become a client?
We start with a 20 minute consultation. During our phone call (or video of if you prefer), we discuss what your hopes are for working together and I'll talk more about my practice and how I work. Together we can decide whether to set up a first appointment so you can experience how sessions feel.
  • What's happens if I need to cancel a session?
As long as you communicate prior to 24 hours, then you are good to go! If sessions are cancelled in less than 24 hours, then you're charged the full fee of the service you booked.
  • How do I communicate with you between sessions?
Scheduling questions: Text or email. You can also adjust your schedule through the portal. I do my best to return messages between 24-36 hours. Confidential information: The secure portal has a messaging feature or you can download the "Spruce" app for secure text messaging. My email is secure, but yours may not be so any emails you send me are at your own discretion. Urgent issue: Call and leave a voicemail. I'll do my best to get back to you between 24-36 hours. If it is life threatening, do not call me and just go straight to the emergency room. Or call 9-8-8 for mental health crisis support.
  • Do you accept insurance?
I don't work with insurance companies directly. I am a private pay therapist, meaning you pay for services directly with Create Art & Wellness. However, I can support you in accessing insurance benefits, if your insurance company says you qualify. Some insurance companies reimburse you for services. You can check with your insurance provider to see whether they offer "out-of-network" benefits and whether you qualify. Reimbursement varies depending upon your specific plan and where you live. If you do have out-of-network benefits, then I generate a "superbill" which gives you all the necessary information needed to provide to your insurance company.
  • The first appointment
Once we decide to schedule a first session, you'll be asked to review and complete the welcome paperwork and then we meet! First sessions are 60 minutes, which is longer than a standard session. You'll get a chance to experience what a session feels like right away. No interview style questions, just clear and deep exploring on what's causing your problems and what you want to be different. This gives you an opportunity to understand more of whether my style will work for you. In the last ten minutes we discuss whether to schedule more sessions and chat about how frequent to meet and discuss any other logistics or questions you might have.
