  • Appointment options
You have choices! How long sessions are and how frequently we meet depends on you, what's going on in your life, and what you need. We can work together to figure these things out. 45 minute sessions - available weekly only 55 minute sessions - weekly or biweekly 90 minute sessions - weekly, biweekly or monthly We can meet in-person at my place in Wayland Square or virtually if you live in MA, RI or NJ. A note on extended sessions sessions, Some folks benefit from longer sessions --> 90 minutes. Meeting longer means we can meet less frequently and give your brain the time it needs to get more AH-HAs. The reason most therapists offer 50 minutes is because that's what insurance dictates and allows. When you pay out of pocket, you get to choose what's best for you. I find this is really helpful for folks who don't need to meet as frequently and/or are already seeing a typical therapist (so our work is complimentary) This also works really well for neurodivergant individuals. Lastly, If you are a new client then you may want to consider my Starter Package. This is specifically for adults who want to learn how to make healing art and focus on one key issue. 6 sessions, reduced rate. It's a unique and tailored program designed just for you.
  • What if you can only draw stick figures?
Totally ok. Art therapy isn't focused on skill of art making, but rather on expression of thoughts, feelings, ideas. Externalizing in these ways helps our minds think and see things differently. I can also support you in any technical areas you might need as you explore how art can help you express yourself.
  • What ages are best for art therapy?
Great news - art therapy is for all ages! Art doesn't discriminate based on age (or any other cultural factors for that matter). Art is really versatile and can be adjusted, tweaked and modified to meet most people regardless of their age or abilities.
  • Do I have to make art?
Nope. I work with many clients as a integrative therapist. We may experiment with art making, but it is not a central modality. Other clients are focused on art making as a therapeutic modality and make art more frequently. It largely depends on you and what we are working on.
  • Do you provide internships?
I do not provide internships at this time. Check out local nonprofits and express your interest in incorporating the arts. Expressive art therapists are often implementing new programs and leading the way in offering this modality. I will offer art therapy consultation and support at the standard rate for individuals or groups.
  • How long do I have access to the e-courses for?
You'll get access for 365 days.
  • How do I become a therapy client?
Let's start with a quick call to connect. During this complimentary time, we explore what your hopes are for working together. I'll explain how I work, what you can expect, and answer any questions you have. Together, we will figure what service will be best for you. In our first session, we will meet for a bit longer than usual. This gives us a time to map out your path towards healing and figure out how often to meet.
  • What are your art therapy courses like?
My online courses are designed to teach you what I know about art, healing art, and expressive art. I do this through video lectures, experiential excersies, and art prompts for exploration. You can use "Thinkific" to access my online learning school. You can work through them at your own pace. Feel free to email me any questions you have if you get stuck. I am hear to support you in learning that you can create art and wellness.
  • Are you accepting new clients?
Yes! I'd be honored to connect with you to see how and if I can help.
  • What's happens if I need to cancel a session?
As long as you communicate prior to 24 hours, then you are good to go! If sessions are cancelled in less than 24 hours, then you're charged the full fee of the service you booked.
  • How do I communicate with you between sessions?
Scheduling questions: Text or email. You can also adjust your schedule through the portal. I do my best to return messages between 24-36 hours. Confidential information: I use "Spruce" for secure messaging and communication. You can download the app to ensure your texts are confidential. My email is secure, but yours may not be so any emails you send me are at your own discretion. Urgent issue or appointment needed: Call and leave a voicemail. I'll do my best to get back to you between 24-36 hours. If it is life threatening, do not call me and just go straight to the emergency room. Or call 9-8-8 for mental health crisis support.
  • Do you accept insurance?
I am currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. While I don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost. I have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. With Thrizer, you will only have to pay a copay for our sessions, instead of paying my full fee and waiting for reimbursements. This typically allows clients to save on average 70% upfront on our sessions. During our intake process, I can help you verify if you have out-of-network benefits and how much your copay would be. ‍ ‍ If you have a Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan, you will have to pay my full fee and will receive a paper check reimbursement in a few weeks.
  • The first appointment
Once we decide to schedule a first session, you'll be asked to review and complete the welcome paperwork and then we meet! First sessions are 60 minutes. You'll get a chance to experience what a session feels like right away. No interview style questions, just clear and deep exploring on what's causing your problems and what you want to be different. This gives you an opportunity to understand more of whether my style will work for you. Sometimes this involves art making, sometimes not. We will also discuss whether to schedule more sessions and chat about how frequent to meet and discuss any other logistics or questions you might have.
